一年一度的花蓮觀護盃將於17日開戰，今年邀請8支球隊，包括3支外隊與會，曾獲得NBA鳳凰城太陽青睞的日本後衛田臥勇太將隨隊來台，為邁入第13屆的賽事更添話題。

今年參賽球隊為SBL連霸軍團台中璞園、台灣啤酒、台北達欣、新北裕隆、台灣銀行、日本NBL枥木王道、千葉噴射機和來自美國的SMAA。

8支球隊分為2組，分組前2名進行交叉決賽，賽程為期5天，花蓮小巨蛋免費入場。

田臥目前效力枥木王道，身高僅173公分的他曾在2004-05年效力太陽，出賽4場，留下平均1.8分、1籃板、0.8助攻。

另外，籃協秘書長李一中透露，未來可能將觀護盃打造成SBL熱身賽，讓這場後山戰役不再只是當地盃賽，而是台灣籃球的一大盛會。
