環保媽媽環境保護基金會今年4月起走訪全台各縣市的鄉鎮市區，進行環境整潔評分，新竹縣北埔鄉獲得「整體環境表現不錯」評價，列為「優等」、「值得走訪」。

基金會指出，評比人員對北埔印象良好，老街聚落乾淨，歷史宅院維護完善，還有幾家不提住宿的客棧，呈現非常不一樣的小鎮風情。但基金會建議，「若電纜能地下化、呼籲遊客使用狗便袋，景緻更美好。」

新竹縣環保局表示，北埔鄉榮獲環保署102年度「清淨家園全民運動」地方政府環境清潔維護考核「鄉鎮市區組」特優，在全台灣7839個村里競賽中脫穎而出。北埔鄉公所對此殊榮表示，一切都要謝謝鄉親配合，才能創造優美生活空間。
