2年前的今天，一輛砂石車停在楊梅火車站附近的平交道上，導致來不及煞車的太魯閣號迎頭撞上，該列火車駕駛員鳴笛警告至最後1秒，被撞死在駕駛座上。為悼念台鐵機車長蔡崇輝當年捨身勇救300人的英勇行為，並悼念蔡逝世2周年，今(17)日上午10時，台鐵所有路線上的列車同時鳴笛5秒，蔡崇輝遺孀王麗娟也出面受訪，她說，銓敘部翻案，這是遲來的公道。

銓敘部長張哲琛16日向考試院會報告，根據台鐵新事證，蔡崇輝在做完煞車及鳴笛標準動作後，仍持續鳴笛示警，後因正面撞擊致死，並遭「擠出」駕駛室，重審認定符合「冒險犯難」要件；銓敘部長張哲琛表示，重新認定結果，除了原有的撫卹金，蔡崇輝遺族約可再多領約200多萬元的撫卹金。

台鐵今天以鳴笛5秒追思蔡崇輝，這5秒代表蔡崇輝放棄可逃生的最後5秒，藉此傳達對他的感念與思念，鐵路工會也呼籲用路人經過平交道切勿搶快，以免害人害己，遺恨終身。
