China-based touch panel maker Truly Optoelectronics has developed total solutions for use in smart wearable devices, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Its total solutions include the industrial design, molding, display modules, OGS (one glass solution) or GFF touch panels, cover glass and CCMs (compact camera modules).
Makers are shifting their focus to production of total solutions in order to help vendors accelerate their products' time-to-market, with China makers increasing efforts to bump their presence in the supply chain.
In addition to Truly's efforts, China touch panel maker Jiangxi Holitech Technology is eyeing opportunities for small- to medium-size displays and modules, and will focus on production of sensors and displays for use in wearables.
Meanwhile, BOE Optoelectronics Holding aims to increase its presence in the wearables market through purchasing equipment maker Meta.
IEK estimates the touch panel market will increase from US$31.4 billion in 2013 to US$43.7 billion in 2017, with a CAGR of 12.5% over the 2-13-2017 period.
Wearables sales are expected to reach 52 million units across all wearable categories in 2014, up 32% from 2013, noted Futuresource Consulting.
