【綜合報導】鄭南榕是台灣著名的政治評論家，1984年創辦《自由時代週刊》，全力爭取百分百的言論自由。1988年底，鄭南榕被控妨礙公務與妨害自由，隔年遭以「涉嫌叛亂」傳訊，鄭南榕當時說，「國民黨抓不到我的人，只能抓到我的屍體」，隨後在雜誌社展開71天自囚行動，拒絕出庭應訊。當警方企圖攻堅拘捕時，鄭南榕點火自焚，震驚社會。
 
鄭南榕自焚十周年前夕，民眾在鄭南榕當時自焚的原址（民權東路三段106巷3弄11號3樓），成立鄭南榕基金會及紀念館，現場完整保留當時焚燒後的房間，供民眾憑弔。
