真的無人能取代？洋基總教練Joe Girardi表示，退休的Derek Jeter留下的隊長職位，他目前還沒有考慮任何接任的人選。

這將是自2003年以來，洋基頭一次迎向新球季，陣中卻沒有隊長的情形，Joe Girardi希望，球隊的老將像CC Sabathia，Brian McCann以及Carlos Beltran，都可以負起領導球隊的責任。

「我認為這是很重要的，」Joe Girardi表示，「大家都在談論，誰能成為球隊的領導者，我過去待過4支球隊，都沒有1個特別的領導者，一定有人會挺身而出，我對此有信心。」

當年指名Derek Jeter作為隊長，是已經過世的老闆George M. Steinbrenner的決定，他前一任的洋基隊長，正是現在道奇總總教練Don Mattingly，時間是1991到1995年。

從1995到2003年Derek Jeter上任，洋基這7年間一樣沒有隊長，不過這段時間，他們還是拿下了4次世界冠軍。
