祕魯科學家在亞馬遜雨林中發現，蜘蛛懂得製作假的蜘蛛分身，科學家猜測可能是用來保護自己。
 
這種蜘蛛據信是塵蛛屬(Cyclosa)的新種蜘蛛，牠們會利用昆蟲屍體和木屑碎葉等打造假蜘蛛，再將它放在蜘蛛網上，研究人員尚不確定牠們打造假分身的理由為何，不過最有可能的原因，應是用來混淆掠食者。
 
生物學家菲爾托瑞斯2012年9月發現假蜘蛛障眼法，就在他發現前數個月，昆蟲學家賴瑞里維斯也在菲律賓的尼格洛斯島上發現假蜘蛛，不過里維斯表示雖然兩地發現的蜘蛛都會製造假分身，但假蜘蛛的結構完全不同，「蜘蛛製作假蜘蛛並不算太驚喜的事，讓我驚訝的是過去從來沒有人發現」。（周佩萱／綜合外電報導）
