China-based content provider and TV vendor LeTV saw sales of smart TVs sold online reach 1.6 million in 2014 and estimates it will climb to three million in 2015, according to statistics from research firm AVC.
China is one of the fastest growing markets for smart TVs, and LeTV is one of the main vendors in China using its content services to help push sales of its own branded TVs.
Content and TV hardware packages are growing in China and many observers believe that new units released in 2015 will focus more on value-added content services to push sales as local vendors are no longer seeing growth that spurred from subsidies issued by the China government for LCD TV purchases.
Smart TV sales reached 90 million units worldwide in 2013 and will grow at 21% CAGR to reach 228 million in 2018, according to Futuresource Consulting.
