近日印度舉行地方選舉，也出現一個特殊現象，恰蒂斯加爾（Chhattisgarh）省萊加爾（Raigarh）巿長的當選人，是一位35歲的變性人瑪都‧金納（Madhu Kinnar），成為全印度首位變性人市長，創下印度選舉史上新紀錄。

據英國《都市報》報導，金納是「賤民」階級出身，她在印度兩大黨的夾擊下，以獨立參選人之姿贏得這次選戰。她說，因為有選民的愛與祝福，讓他能順利當選，她會全力以赴完選民夢想。

報導也指出，金納的學歷只有8年級，她靠著跟姐妹們一起在火車上唱歌賣藝維持生計，她說這次只花6、7萬盧比（約新台幣3萬~3萬5000元）打選戰，沒想到打敗兩大政黨推出的候選人。（施旖婕／綜合外電報導）
