（中央社華盛頓20日綜合外電報導）美國高級官員今天說，美軍今年夏天展開祕密行動，前往敘利亞營救美國人質，但沒有成功。

數十名特戰士兵負責執行這項任務。美方行動前，確認這些人質在某一個地點，但是到達之後才發現空無一人。他們在敘利亞境內只待了一小段時間就撤離。

美國記者佛里遭到伊斯蘭國（IS）好戰分子殺害之後，美國防部自己公開這個營救行動。
