John Lackey被交易到紅雀後首次先發出賽，面對釀酒人投完7局的Lackey退場時仍以2分落後，但隊友在下半局立刻幫他打下3分，終場紅雀就以3比2擊敗釀酒人，Lackey也拿下轉隊後的第1勝。

此役與John Lackey搭配的捕手碰巧也是之前在紅襪隊的隊友A.J. Pierzynski，他在7局下敲安幫助紅雀隊追平比數，賽後也讚賞Lackey的表現。

「我想他在前兩局的失分是因為對於新環境太興奮，但之後他也有做好他該做的事，他確實投出一場好球。」A.J. Pierzynski說。

Lackey在1局上在兩出局後，被連敲2支安打先失1分，2局上則被Mark Reynolds敲出陽春砲再掉1分，之後隨即穩定下來，從第3到第7局只被敲4支零星安打。

紅雀隊打線則在前6局遭到釀酒人先發投手Matt Garza的封鎖，只擊出1安打，直到Garza投完6局因左胸肋骨部位有傷勢提早退場，紅雀隊才釀酒人牛棚手中逮到機會反攻。
