日本昭和殼牌石油(Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K.)旗下全球最大CIS薄膜太陽能電池生產子公司Solar Frontier 1日發布新聞稿宣布，於2012年底「暫時」停產的宮崎第二工廠(年產能60MW)已於當(1)日重啟生產，且產能達滿載狀態。

Solar Frontier表示，宮崎二廠當前將生產採用現有規格的住宅用CIS薄膜太陽能電池，之後並計劃於今(2013)年內開始生產旗下厚木研究中心所研發出的劃時代新型太陽能電池，且該新型太陽能電池主要將供應日本國內市場需求。

Solar Frontier指出，宮崎二廠啟用於2009年，之後為了將生產集中於最先端的「國富工廠(宮崎第三工廠；年產能900MW)」，故宮崎二廠於2012年底時進行停產措施，惟因新產品已完成研發、加上為了因應日本國內對CIS薄膜太陽能電池的需求持續攀升，故決議重啟宮崎二廠的生產。

據日經新聞報導指出，Solar Frontier宮崎二廠重啟生產後，旗下所有工廠產能利用率皆將達滿載狀態，其2013年度(2013年4月-2014年3月)太陽能電池供應量將較2012年度大增8成，供應量將超越Panasonic躍升為日本第3大廠。

CIS太陽能電池是一種以Cu(銅)、In(銦)、Se(硒)為主要原料的薄膜太陽能電池，其主要特徵為成本不受矽價格變動，且在陰天或面板上有部份陰影時仍可進行發電。
