分析糞便 尼安德塔人也吃菜

（法新社華盛頓25日電） 今天公布的研究指出，在西班牙發現、已知年代最久遠的尼安德塔人糞便，經分析後發現，尼安德塔人不僅吃肉，也吃蔬菜。

這是首度對排泄物進行分析的研究，目的是探究尼安德塔人究竟吃什麼。研究結果發表於「公共科學圖書館期刊」（PLOS ONE）。

研究人員從沉積物中挖來樣本，磨成粉末後，在麻省理工學院（MIT）精密實驗室進行分析。

他們在糞便中發現5B-stigmastanol，植物在消化過程中分解後，會產生這種物質。

這代表尼安德塔人如專家所想，大多吃肉，但也有證據顯示，他們的飲食中含有大量植物，包括塊莖、莓果、堅果等。（譯者：中央社蔡佳伶）
