堪稱「死亡之組」的D組，以義大利對決英格蘭最受矚目，35歲老將Andrea Pirlo已經放話，有招克制三獅軍團，有信心能夠取勝。

Pirlo說：「我們研究過他們的戰術，找到了應對之道。」但他並未透露細節，不過指出他的工作就是幫助球隊把球控制好。

「義大利對上英格蘭一向有不錯的成績，我們有不同的方法來面對他們，我們也會發揮出自己的特色。」

不只對英格蘭，Pirlo表示義大利已經累計足夠的能量，在巴西創造歷史，「我們並不會滿足於通過第一輪，不管能走多遠，最重要的是相信自己。」

雖然信心滿滿，但Pirlo也說，與英格蘭一戰必定非常激烈，因為英格蘭陣容比起2012年歐洲盃的陣容還出色，有很多具天賦且身材不錯的年輕球員，「但我們知道怎麼對付他們。」
