英國森德蘭區一名男子，為了切除蔓延到盆骨的巨大大腿腫瘤，先將左小腿「暫存」在前臂，引前臂血流流經小腿肌肉組織，待截肢後再將小腿肌肉組織用來修補截去整條左腿後軀幹所留下的大傷口。

59歲的麥格雷格(Ian McGregor)，大腿長出巨大腫瘤，疼痛難耐，過去10年間多次就醫都無法解決，並已經蔓延到骨盆腔內。後來醫護人員想出，將並未受到腫瘤影響左小腿骨骼以外的部份，暫時移植到他的前臂上，以維持組織的生命狀態，待截除左肢後，再將小腿組織用以填補截肢後的大型傷口。去年8月，麥格雷格進行了這個歷時18小時的手術，現在已逐漸康復。

由於同類手術十分罕見，醫護人員計劃將手術過程公開，希望提供醫療界日後進行類似手術的參考。（於慶中／綜合外電報導）
