賽揚強投卡本特退休　不死鳥傳奇落幕

【王覺一／綜合報導】不死鳥賽揚投手卡本特(Chris Carpenter)今天正式告知紅雀球團，他已決定退休，結束15年大聯盟生涯，留下144勝94敗，防禦率3.76。球團除了考慮給與卡本特新的角色與任務，也同時宣布總教練馬西尼(Mike Matheny)獲得3年延長合約。
 
卡本特生涯多次受到重大運動傷害，02年進行右肩關節唇手術，07年進行右手肘韌帶移植手術，但他有如不死鳥般，每次浴火重生就更勇猛，05年贏得國聯賽揚獎，06年賽揚票選第3，09年拿下國聯防禦率王，賽揚票選第2名。
