【簡竹君╱綜合外電報導】明天是美國前總統甘迺迪遇刺身亡50年紀念日，他英年早逝、謎樣人生以及他所象徵美國充滿希望又強盛的年代，半世紀來留給美國大眾無限懷念。

美國為他舉行為期1周的紀念活動，總統歐巴馬伉儷、前總統柯林頓伉儷20日將聯袂到他墓地致敬。同日歐巴馬（Barack Obama）在白宮頒發「總統自由獎章」，此為甘迺迪為表揚公民卓越貢獻而創立，為美政府授予平民的最高榮譽，不過他在預定頒獎前2周遇刺身亡。今年得主包括柯林頓夫婦、名嘴歐普拉、已故女太空人萊德（Sally Ride）等。

美國大學歷史教授史泰因霍恩說：「他為非凡領導能力樹立典範，讓我們對現今的領導人也都存在相同的期望。」不過南方衛理公會大學歷史教授安格爾不諱言：「他對現今世代的重要性已經式微。」他預料望來的歷史學者會以更嚴厲的眼光，審視甘迺迪的歷史定位。
