以HBL冠軍結束高中生涯，能仁家商畢業的呂宗霖對未來原本有些躊躇，但媽媽的一句話讓他下定決心，他選擇就讀更重視課業的台科大，希望除了籃球，還能在大學得到更多。

「我的身材不好，媽媽希望我能在大學多學點東西，為未來鋪後路。」身高175公分的呂宗霖，是上屆HBL冠軍能仁家商的主力球員，沒有與隊友一同前往健行科大，選擇台科大就是希望加強課業，有更多元發展，「媽媽要我不要放棄籃球，畢竟是自己的興趣。」

台科大新學年補進呂宗霖與身高198公分的謝宗融，一內一外大幅提升戰力，昨面對世新大學，先有謝宗融2記灌籃提升士氣，又有呂宗霖關鍵上籃澆熄對手追分氣燄，終場以60比53在主場笑納2連勝，與輔仁大學、高雄師大在B組並列領先。

連續兩役逆轉勝，台科大總教練李永祥強調，球員在同學面前想表現，有些綁手綁腳，打到後段又因同學大聲加油越打越好。他特別點名呂宗霖，成功彌補倪學謙因傷缺陣的戰力空檔，謝宗融則揮別壓力，與范士恩、黃毓荃構築禁區防線，但他坦言可用之兵較少，接下來調度是關鍵。
