在目前不少手持裝置均選擇採用康寧旗下Gorilla系列強化玻璃，同時針對即將興盛的穿戴裝置、觸控筆電，甚至車用擋風玻璃，康寧也將推出相關產品，也因此讓第二季營收亮眼，同時達成連續三季每股盈餘均成長表現。

根據康寧公布第二季財報營收，顯示主要營收為美金20億元，相較去年同期成長11%，淨利 (GAAP)達美金20億元，而每股主要盈餘達美金0.32元，比去年同時期成長23%，並且連續三季均呈現向上成長，同時在GAAP 每股盈餘達美金0.43元，相較去年同期增加39%。

在本季結束時，康寧總計持有美金55億元現金及短期投資金額，並且在第二季購回約美金2.42億元普通股權，並增加11%季度股利支付額，作為回報給股東承諾。

康寧董事長、執行長暨總裁Wendell P. Weeks表示，過去18個月時間有效管理成本結構，讓LCD玻璃業務穩定成長，同時配合推出新產品組合，讓整體獲利發揮成效。

而在康寧顯示科技事業群主要營收部分為美金6.7億元，相較去年同期成長21%，並且超出原本預期成長幅度。而在康寧自營業務與三星康寧精密材料公司 (SCP玻璃總產量部分，相較上一季成長趨於緩和，但相較去年同期成長20%，主要盈餘也比去年同期成長11%。至於電信事業群營收則為美金6.01億元，相較去年同期成長8%，主要盈餘約成長62%。

另外，在包含Gorilla Glass等的特殊材料事業群營收為美金3.01億元，相較前一季成長17%，主要盈餘也比去年成長33%，主要源自Gorilla Glass強化玻璃需求持續強勁。

其他包含環保科技事業群則比去年同期下滑8%，但主要盈餘則維持相同獲利，而生命科學事業群營收則成長為美金2.19億元，相較去年同期成長35%，主要盈餘也約成長一倍。另外道康寧公司核心股權收益比去年同期下滑19%，仍遠低於康寧先前預期。

至於針對未來發展部分，康寧預計在2013年第三季達成連續四季與前一年同期相比均呈現成長表現，並且預估LCD玻璃產量將在第三季略為成長，而在價格跌幅部分預計將如前一季呈現和緩局面。

而針對稍早宣布針對觸控筆電推出Gorilla Glass NBT強化玻璃，估計將使特殊材料事業群在第三季營收成長。至於針對全球電視零售需求成長部分，在50吋或以上LCD機種將帶動下半年度產量成長。

在其他事業群部分，電信事業群在第三季營收預計較去年同期成長20%，環保科技事業群第三季營收同樣預計較去年同期略為成長，生命科學事業群在第三季營收預計也會比去年同期成長40%-45%。另外，因為價格壓力及庫存成本，估計將使道康寧公司股權收益較第二季下滑約50%，第四季反應收益預估會更接近第二季水準。

【蘇聖怡／台北報導】狂犬病疫情擴散，民進黨立委劉建國上午舉行記者會批政府單位全亂了套。劉建國痛批，跨部會會議沒有針對源頭、疫情掌握、防堵等實際研議，「疫苗掌控亂了套！疫情掌握不清楚！」農委會目前為止對外說法不一，也沒有明確指示地方該如何處理流浪犬貓問題。劉建國更怒斥：「台灣出現首例錢鼠染病，疾管局竟然還敢說疫情在可控制範圍！離譜！」

【張勵德／台北報導】延宕逾5年的「擴大土城都市計畫(土城彈藥庫附近地區)」政策環評案，今天經環保署環評小組會議討論後，決議要求政策研擬機關新北市府正面回應相關問題後，始得送交環評大會討論。
 
土城彈藥庫開發案總面積達162公頃，其中最具爭議的是其中規劃約24公頃的司法園區，擬將台北看守所、板橋地院及地檢署遷移至此，但當地居民及環保團憂心可能破壞當地既有的濕地及生態環境而反對，因此從2008年開始進行政策環評至今。
 
 環保署表示，今小組審查會議中有許多當地民眾來表達意見，會後要求新北市府應採低密度開發，並提出淹水問題解決方案，同時在區段徵收上應與當地民眾積極溝通，補充修正說明書再將全案送審。

南投縣國姓鄉長福村、仁愛鄉中正村廿六日分別發現鼬獾屍體，昨證實都染狂犬病，南投縣迄今共有鹿谷、魚池、水里、仁愛和國姓五個鄉淪為狂犬病疫區，是全台最嚴重地區。

家住雲林縣的九歲女童，前天隨父母到南投縣仁愛鄉精英村廬山溫泉區拜訪親戚，被一隻闖入的鼬獾咬傷右腳趾，「有老鼠咬我！」女童大喊，馬上爬到椅子上。屋裡大人馬上關門，有人抓凳子、有人拿安全帽猛砸，鼬獾被打死。

女童腳趾上有小傷口，爸爸開車衝到消防隊，媽媽和女童坐上救護車，直奔埔里基督教醫院。院方表示仍要追蹤，並施打後續的四劑疫苗。鼬獾屍體已送淡水家畜衛生試驗所化驗，結果還未出爐。

南投縣有五個鄉淪為疫區，家畜疾病防治所人員輪流排班，分赴各地施打狂犬病疫苗。所長唐佳永說，淪為疫區的這五個鄉，都在山區，從鹿谷、魚池、水里傳過來，防治所盡力出去打狂犬疫苗，希望疫情不要擴大。

彰化市作飲料生意的李姓男子，昨在廚房煮粉圓，看到一隻老鼠，拿起塑膠袋抓鼠，沒想到老鼠翻身回過頭隔著塑膠袋咬傷他右大拇指，當場血流如注。送醫治療，醫護人員通報疾管局後，為他施打狂犬病疫苗。農業處長郭丑哲表示，李男抓的是老鼠，不是錢鼠，但為求慎重，仍把老鼠寄到農委會家畜衛生試驗所檢驗。

惠氏藥廠所生產的「雷帕霉素」（Rapamune）是一種免疫抑制劑，主要在協助腎臟移植者排除器官排斥的症狀，美國食品藥物管理局（Food and Drug Administration，FDA）於2010年4月批准此款新藥。但惠氏因涉嫌廣告不實，被被判高額的罰款。

【賴德剛／美國巴爾的摩報導】羅嘉仁昨天在睡夢中接獲球團要他上大聯盟通知後，立即收拾行李搭機飛赴巴爾的摩與球隊會合，他説：「第一時間聽到真的很緊張，但後來就感受到壓力，因為是球隊對你有期望，所以當然會有壓力。」
 
 羅嘉仁是台灣第10位升上大聯盟的球員，他去年手肘開刀後，今年受邀參加大聯盟春訓，也被球隊列入40人名單，只是因為開季前手與肩膀不舒服，因而從小聯盟開始調整，今天終於正式踏上大聯盟球場。
 
不過由於大聯盟規定球員移動時都要穿西裝，羅嘉仁在小聯盟都是搭巴士移動，所以他大多都是穿較為輕便的衣服搭車，他笑說：「誰會穿西裝搭巴士啊，當然沒有準備西裝啊，所以到這邊後，第一件事情就是去買有領子的衣服。」
