人類演進歷史再往前推進一大步！國際研究小組在非洲衣索比亞有了驚人發現，研究小組在當地阿法爾地區發現一塊五牙頜骨，頜骨上有牙齒相連，牙齒還清晰可辨。研究人員週三（4日）表示，這一發現，表明人類的祖先是生活在現在的阿法爾地區國家，有開闊的草地環境，附近還有湖泊、河流和活火山，時間約在2.8億年前，或者再更早的40萬年。

目前這塊化石尚未被分配到某個特定的物種，但從它超薄的臼齒以及牙弓的比例，專家認為這塊化石已經成為現代人類物種的一個非常早期的代表。目前已知最古老的智人化石，是距今約2.3或2.4億年前；而最古老的阿法南猿成員化石，則是來自哈達爾附近的衣索比亞，至今約3.2億年的歷史。

至於剛剛發現的化石，是從約2.8億年前的非洲出土的地層挖掘出的，而且這個疑似成年人的下顎左側部分的化石，長約8公分，5顆牙齒仍清楚可見，像這樣的牙齒形狀及排列特徵，大小與下巴狀態與猿人非常相近，化石被懷疑是人類的祖先成分相當濃厚。

科學雜誌的副主編安德魯•薩格登興奮地描述，這項考古研究結果打開一個「人類進化在非洲」的新頁。
