烏克蘭政府軍和東部親俄羅斯的叛軍達成的停火協議，於15日凌晨零時(台北時間15日上午6點)開始生效，長達10個月的烏克蘭東部戰火就此平息。不過，烏克蘭政府指控親俄分離分子試圖破壞停火協議。

在白俄羅斯首都明斯克歷經馬拉松談判後，烏克蘭、俄羅斯、德國和法國領袖於12日達成停火協議。根據協議，交戰雙方從停火正式生效起，有2天時間展開自前線撤離重型武器。

根據路透報導，在停火生效之前的一段時間，烏克蘭東部城市頓內次克（Donetsk）傳出猛烈炮擊和火箭發射聲，但停火協議生效後，砲擊便停止。

不過根據法新社報導，停火開始生效後不久，烏克蘭總統波洛申科（Petro Poroshenko）隨即表示，烏克蘭的和平進程正遭到親俄分離分子「危害」，他們實際上在關鍵交戰城鎮傑巴利采韋（Debaltseve）包圍政府軍。
