亞洲盃半準決賽，伊朗對上宿敵伊拉克，正規90分鐘1：1戰平，進入30分鐘加時賽兩隊各進2球，120分鐘結束3：3依然平手，進入本屆大會首次PK大戰，伊朗第7位罰球者13號Vahid Amiri中柱沒進，接下來登場的伊拉克14號Salam Shakir穩穩踢進，伊拉克驚險晉級。

上半場伊朗率先得分，前鋒Sardar Azmoun在24分鐘接獲Vouria Ghafour助攻頭槌破網1：0，但後衛Mehrdad Pooladi單人吃兩張黃被罰出場，下半場伊朗少一人進攻頓顯無力，56分鐘伊拉克Ahmed Yasin後點補射穿過守門員跨下破網1：1追平。

伊拉克進球後，由於多打少節奏踢得非常緩慢，63分鐘上半場進球的Azmoun抽筋被抬出場。接下來兩隊皆無創造出好機會，反而場面越來越火爆，伊拉克球員出剪刀腳、推人吃了2黃，伊朗也推人吃1黃，正規時間1：1平手進入加時。
