苗栗立委補選，民進黨擬禮讓以無黨籍身分參選的學運領袖陳為廷，而陳為廷首次登上《蘋果日報》版面其實是在2010年5月2日，他在前一日勞動節參加勞團發起的「反貧窮大遊行」時，被《蘋果》記者訪問並拍下陳當時僅19歲的青澀模樣。

陳為廷當時受訪表示：「對政府的政策非常不能認同，像俗稱22K、薪資2萬2000元的大專畢業生企業實習方案，根本是政府圖利企業、壓低大學畢業生薪資的政策。」（黃揚明／台北報導）
