嘉義縣阿里山鄉在莫拉克風災中造成山美、新美、茶山3座橋樑沖毀，最後一座完成重建的山美橋，嘉義縣政府28日舉行通車典禮，由行政院重建會執行長陳振川、嘉義縣長張花冠、阿里山國家風景區管理處長曾漢洲、阿里山鄉長陳明利、縣議員汪志敏、社區理事長安麗花等人剪綵。
山美橋通車典禮中，鄒族居民以傳統歌舞慶祝，鄒族長老也鄭重的舉行祈福儀式，最後與會人員與居民一同走過山美橋巡禮，歡慶新橋通車，縣府指出，在莫拉克風災以前，山美橋僅是一座長40公尺，橋面寬8公尺的鋼筋混凝土橋樑，新橋為單拱式鋼橋設計，採大跨徑河道不落墩跨過曾文溪，橋長115公尺，橋寬15.7公尺，鋼拱最高達約20公尺，橋面距溪床深約24公尺。
縣長張花冠致詞感謝各界對嘉義縣阿里山南三村重建工作的協助，讓居民在最短時間內回復到正常生活，也讓這片土地能夠恢復昔日的美麗。張花冠說，嘉129線為南三村對外主要道路，山美橋完工通車後，除一勞永逸解決部落對外交通，為地方帶來新的觀光景點，並與新美橋、茶山橋連成一線，讓嘉129線暢通無阻，進而帶動地方產業，歡迎全國民眾到此旅遊。
縣府表示，新橋配合週圍達娜伊谷生態園區等旅遊景點，於橋台兩端設有鄒族意象設施，橋的兩側佈設人行道及於橋中央設置觀景平台，可供往來遊客駐留橋上遠跳周遭山景及鄰近福美吊橋、達娜伊谷吊橋，是一座非常漂亮的景觀、並具鄒族特色之橋樑，由於溪中不落橋墩且橋台高程拉高，可有效避免日後土石流之衝擊，帶給地方一條安全回家的路。
