Ubuntu 其實是一套 Lunix 架構的作業系統，主要是以傳統電腦為主要環境，
之所以會想要打造行動版本，Ubuntu 開發者、Canonical 的 CEO Mark Shuttleworth 表示，
目標是希望打造高階手機規格實驗平台，希望能率先搶先試用最新技術，就像 F1 賽車一樣，
所有車廠的最新技術都運用在賽車上，但是這些技術並不代表能夠馬上商業化。

目前 Ubuntu Edge 暫定規格是 4 核心處理器、4GB RAM、128GB儲存空間，藍寶石水晶觸控螢幕，除了內建的 Ubuntu 系統外，也同時搭載了 Android 系統，只要接上螢幕，也可以變成一台完整的電腦。
