不過這並非納斯達克交易所首度全面交易停擺，上次出現這樣大規模的全面暫停交易是在1987年，當時肇事的是1隻迷路的小松鼠。可憐的小松鼠誤闖康乃狄克州特朗布爾市（Trumbull）的供電設備，造成停電，而納斯達克的主要伺服器中心正好位於特朗布爾市。小松鼠不幸喪生，納斯達克也因此停止交易82分鐘。
